Honeybee Swarm Removal in Delaware

Updated February, 2026

A list of local beekeepers who may offer the service of removing honeybees, organized by county and city.

Honey bees swarm as a natural part of their life cycle, it is how the colony reproduces. Swarming usually occurs in late spring and early summer and begins in the warmer hours of the day. A swarm may contain several hundred to several thousand worker bees, a few drones and one queen. Swarming bees fly around briefly and then cluster on a tree limb, shrub or other object. Clusters usually remain stationary for an hour to a few days, depending on weather and the time needed to find a new nest site by scouting bees. When a suitable location for the new colony, such as a hollow tree, is found the cluster breaks up and flies to it. Below is a list of beekeepers in Delaware that can be called to remove swarms. Call immediately if you see a swarm, they will not remain very long.

If swarms are not collected the honeybees will find a new home on their own, in a place that may not be convenient. Hollow trees, attics, chimneys and underneath the siding of a home have all been used by bees in the past. These honey bees can also be removed, but it may not be easy, and there may be a fee requested by the member doing the service. Depending on the size of the colony a contractor may also be necessary to repair damage.

Before making a call make sure you are dealing with honeybees! If in doubt send a photo to the beekeeper.  Consider a donation to the Delaware Beekeepers Association for this service.  Link: Swarm Removal Donation

For Swarm removals: Individuals listed on our swarm call list are independent beekeepers. They help rescue and relocate honey bees' swarms. This service is usually free.

For Structural Removals (Cutouts): Cutouts are not covered by the DBA insurance. Honey bee removal from structures is not a job for amateurs. We recommend you confirm that the Beekeeper is experienced with hive removal. Beekeepers listed for Cutouts are expected to follow best practices including removal, rehoming, and cleaning of all bee remnants. This is generally a paid service. It is the homeowner’s responsibility to make the necessary structural repairs after the beekeeper has completed the removal of the hive.

Members who are willing to remove bees from inside buildings or trees are marked with an asterisk (*) on the list below.
