Following 15th Annual Meeting [at UD] association DISBANDS

Dr Dale Bray organized UD meeting and revives Association; Joint meeting with MD beekeepers at Salisbury, MD

1971

Proposed Newark ordinance prohibiting “Pigs and Bees” defeated by beekeepers.

1973

1st appearance of Dewey Caron at DE meeting; DDA gets 1st ETO fumigation chamber (Richard Goerger Apiary Inspector)

Phil Bowman becomes 1st “full time” DDA Apiary Inspector

Issue #18-20 NEWSY BEE; Dewey Caron on DSBA program [1st year as Entomology Department Chair]

Silver Issue #25 [Charles Mason editor] of NEWSY BEE

Issue #32 NEWSY BEE (Sept) Dewey Caron becomes editor

1985

Bob Mitchell becomes full time Apiary Inspector; tracheal mites “discovered”

1986

EAS in DE; Dewey Caron President, Robert MacIntire VP

1987

DE gets 2nd ETO chamber (in use until 1997); DE Apiary Law revised.

1988

Bob MacIntire, Angola becomes 1st DE Master Beekeeper (the Payne’s would follow two years later); Joint Meeting with MD (Salisbury)

1992

Bob Mitchell discovers 1st Varroa in DE bees during inspection (in package cols)

1995

Dover passes restrictive bee ordinance

1996

DE meeting leads to development of regional bee res/ext program MAAREC

1997

EAS for 3rd time in DE; Warren Seaver, President, Bob Mitchell VP; Jerry Caldwell receives recognition for his Boy Scout bee effort with Divelbiss award

1999

State Fair exhibits takes 1st place (+ again in 2000); Dewey Caron publishes textbook: HONEY BEE BIOLOGY & BEEKEEPING

2001

SHB discovered in Bee package at UD; Africanized Honey Bee book published

2002

ISSUE # 100 NEWSY BEE (Caron still editor)

2004

50th Annual Meeting DSBA.

2005

Electronic publishing of NEWSY BEE begins

2006

UD Africanized Honey Bee meeting & Action Plan developed (1st plan 1994) 2007 EAS for 4th time in DE; Dewey Caron retires after Issue # 122 NEWSY BEE.
